  • Three of a kind: Three cards of the same rank, such as three Jacks. The higher-ranking three-of-a-kind wins.
  • Straight: Five consecutive cards of any suit, such as 5-6-7-8-9. The highest ranking straight wins.
  • Flush: Five non-consecutive cards of the same suit, such as all Hearts. The highest-ranking flush wins.
  • Full house: Three of a kind and a pair, such as three Queens and two Aces. The higher-ranking three-of-a-kind wins.
  • Four of a kind: Four cards of the same rank, such as four Tens. The higher-ranking four-of-a-kind wins.
  • Straight flush: Five consecutive cards of the same suit, such as 7-8-9-10-J of Hearts. The highest ranking straight flush wins.
  • Royal flush: The highest possible straight flush, with a 10-J-Q-K-A of the same suit.

Types of Poker Games

There are many different types of poker games you can play, but the most popular ones are:

  • Texas Hold’em: Each player is dealt two cards (hole cards), and then five community cards are dealt that all players can use to make their best hand.
  • Omaha: Each player is dealt four cards (hole cards), and then five community cards are dealt that all players can use to make their best hand. However, players must use two of their hole cards and three community cards.
  • Seven-Card Stud: Each player is dealt seven cards, but only the best five-card hand counts. Players can improve their hand by drawing additional cards.
