After crashing out from the first round at the World Championships last year, Axelsen has made a terrific comeback at this year’s tournament as he has reached the final without dropping a set. He faced unseeded opponents like Liew Daren, Mark Caljouw and Sitthikon Thammasin in the first three rounds and after comfortable straight game victories, he faced sixth seed Anthony Ginting in the quarterfinal and won the contest 21-10, 21-10. In the semifinal, he sailed past fourth seed Chou Tien Chen to make it to the final.

Meanwhile, Vitidsarn started the tournament with a 21-17, 21-10 victory over Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto. He then defeated Japan’s Kodai Naraoka and Kenta Nishimoto in straight games to enter quarterfinals. He faced defending champion Loh Kean Yew for a spot in the semifinals and despite a tough challenge from the Singaporean, he prevailed in the contest. He then clinched victory in straight games against Zhao Junpeng in the semifinal to set up clash with World No.1 Viktor Axelsen.

Vitidsarn and Axelsen faced each other four times in the past and in all the four matches so far, Axelsen emerged as the winner. The Danish once again enters the contest as the favourite.
