Tate moved from America as a young child when his parents divorced and began training at the Storm Gym in his hometown of Luton under coach Amir Subasic. According to his claims, he has a kickboxing record of 43-9, a perfect record in amateur and professional mixed martial arts, and a win against potential UFC star Luke Barnatt.

Tate was a four-time world champion in ISKA kickboxing. However, the number of kickboxing contests he competed in is unknown. According to Mirror Fighting, by May 2012, Tate’s MMA record read 2-1 for amateurs, 1-1 for semi-pros, and 1-0 for professionals.

A vicious knee by Franci Grajs to Top G

In his extensive career, it was the second of just two really bad knockout losses. It happened during the Gladiators’ Enfusion Trial contest. He defeated the opponent in his semifinal match via head kick knockout before facing local fighter Franci Grajs in the Ljubljana championship showdown.

After a challenging first round, Grajs managed to pin Tate up against the ropes, where he hit several powerful knees. Finally, he sealed the victory by combining a sequence of punches with a devastating knockout knee. Even though Tate lost the fight’s reward and the Enfusion 85kg championship and $30,000, he still acquired a net worth estimated to be in the neighborhood of $100 million.

Earlier, Tate had asserted that he had only been knocked out once in his career during an appearance with The Fellas podcast. In addition to his well-publicized loss to Franci Grajs at Enfusion 3 in 2012, he also failed to stop the count when Scott Gibson knocked him out in the first round of a lesser-known 2007 match early in his career.

On April 14, 2007, Gibson faced Tate for the British light-heavyweight championship. An overhand right defeated Tate in the fourth round. The fight was one of Tate’s debuts and, according to his coach, a significant step forward at that time in his career was sanctioned by Golden Belt.
