US Open Day 7 LIVE: After six days of intense action at the Flushing Meadows in New York, fourth round action commences at the US Open on Sunday. World No.1 in Men’s singles Daniil Medvedev will headline the action for the day as he will be up against Nick Kyrgios in a blockbuster contest. Fifth seed Casper Ruud and 13th seed Matteo Berretini will also play their respective fourth round matches alongside the likes of Ons Jabeur, 12th seed Coco Gauff and Caroline Garcia. Matteo Berrettini vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
Matteo Berrettini won a four-set classic against Andy Murray to make it to the round of 16 and set up a clash against Alejandro Fokina. The Italian, a beaten finalist at Wimbledon last year, held his nerve to battle past former World No. 1 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. Meanwhile, Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Colombian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Fokina had registered a win in their only ever match, beating Berrettini in straight sets at the 2021 Monte Carlo Masters.
Casper Ruud vs Corentin Moutet
Fifth seed Casper Ruud will aim to reach his maiden US Open quarterfinal as he will be up against France’s Corentin Moutet in the fourth round clash on Sunday. Ruud had a difficult third round where he managed to win a marathon five-setter against 29th seed Tommy Paul. Out of the five sets, three sets went into the tie-breaker in the contest but Ruud held his nerve to qualify for his first-ever fourth round appearance at the US Open. Meanwhile, Moutet too will be making his maiden appearance in the fourth round at the US Open. In his previous round, he defeated Pedro Cachin in four sets. Both the players will face each other for the first time.
Daniil Medvedev vs Nick Kyrgios
World No.1 Daniil Medvedev will be facing this year’s Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round of the US Open on Sunday. Kyrgios is in red-hot form at the moment and Medvedev will be wary of the challenge the Australian brings to the court and will need to be on top of his game. Medvedev is in good form at the moment as he is yet to drop a single set in the tournament. Kyrgios will however enter the contest with confidence as he has defeated Medvedev much recently in the Canadian Open and will look to continue the same form against the defending champion.
Coco Gauff vs Zhang Shuai
12th seed Coco Gauff is going strong at the moment as the 18-year old American is yet to drop a single set in the tournament. She will look to continue the same form as she faces China’s Zhang Shuai in the fourth round. Having reached the final of the French Open earlier this year, Gauff is one of the contenders for the title. She will be playing her first-ever match in the fourth round of the US Open. Zhang Shuai too is yet to drop a set and will look to challenge the 12th seed in the upcoming contest to seal a quarterfinal spot.
Ons Jabeur vs Veronika Kudermetova
Tunisian fifth seed Ons Jabeur survived a thrilling duel to down USA’s Shelby Rogers 4-6 6-4 6-3 at the U.S. Open on Friday to reach the fourth round of the hardcourt major for the first time. The finalist at Wimbledon will take on Veronika Kudermetova in Round 4 on Saturday. The Russian had reached the quarterfinals of the French Open earlier this year, with this being her best finish at the US Open. Kudermetova has won all her games against Jabeur so far, leading their head-to-head 3-0.
