  • Since winning his 21st Grand Slam title this year at the Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic has been absent from the tour.
  • He was unable to participate in US Open this year as he was unable to enter North America due to his non-vaccination status. Having recently played the Laver Cup, he will return to this event as the top seed.
  • Apart from the Wimbledon victory, it hasn’t been a great year Djokovic. He missed quite a few tournaments at the start of the season due to his non-vaccination status, that included the Australian Open.
  • His only hard court tournament this year was Dubai Tennis championships, where he crashed out in the quarterfinals against a lesser-known Jiri Vesely in straight sets.
  • He then began his clay court season at Monte Carlo Masters, where he was shocked in the first round as Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated him in three sets.
  • At his home tournament in Serbia Open, he reached the final but couldn’t surpass Andrey Rublev and finished as runner-up.
  • At Madrid, he looked in good form but faced a semifinal exit as 19-year old Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in three sets.
  • He won his maiden title this year at the Italian Open by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. He continued that form into the French Open but bowed out from the quarterfinals after losing to Rafael Nadal.
  • He straightaway entered Wimbledon without participating in any other grass court tournaments and won his 21st Grand Slam title.
  • Currently ranked as the World No.7, he is looking to improve his rankings before the end of the year.

  • Andujar started the year with a third round exit at the Australian Open and his best performance in the first half of the hard court season was reaching the quarterfinal at Rio Open.
  • He won just a solitary game in the entire clay court season and bowed out from the first round at Barcelona Open, Estoril Open, Geneva Open and French Open.
  • He also crashed out from the first round at the Wimbledon as he lost to Cameron Norrie in straight sets.
  • He withdrew from the US Open this year after suffering an injury and just before the Tel Aviv Open, he participated in the Genoa Challenger and lost in the second round.
  • In his first match at Israel, he struggled initially in the first set but managed to win it in the tie-breaker and then dominated in the second set, dropping just a game to advance to the second round.

Djokovic vs Andujar Head-to-Head: This will be the third meeting between both these players on the ATP Tour. Djokoivic leads the head-to-head record 2-0 and he enters the upcoming contest too as the overwhelming favourite. Both the players last met a decade ago at the Indian Wells Masters with Djokovic clinching a 3-0 victory.
