Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan both were snubbed from India’s T20 squad for Asia Cup 2022. Instead, they were sent to Zimbabwe for the ODIs. But with KL Rahul back from injury, there will be place for only one. Shubman Gill will have to navigate in the middle order.

IND vs ZIM LIVE: Who will be India’s keeper?
- Shubman Gill in all probability is expected to bat at No 4.
- Captain KL Rahul and Vice Captain Shikhar Dhawan are all set to open for India.
- That leaves the No 3 slot as hot seat. India have two options in No 3 position and both are keepers.
- Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are both are fighting for the keeper’s slot.
- Although Samson has had a decent run in ODIs, the same cannot be said about Ishan Kishan.
- Kishan has played only three ODIs and the last one was in February against West Indies.
- The only way both can play together is if Rahul Tripathi is dropped.
- That way, Ishan Kishan can bat at No 3 while Sanju Samson at No 5.

Having missed out on the Asia Cup 2022 berth and potentially the T20 World Cup, both Sanju and Ishan will be eager to prove the selectors wrong. But for Sanju Samson, he has been in and out of the senior team on more occasions than not. The Zimbabwe series is another chance to cement his place in the team, at least as a backup option.
As for Kishan, he is on the same boat as Sanju. Considering both are keepers and have competition from Rishabh Pant besides KL Rahul and Shubman Gill as openers, it will be a difficult task.
“I feel that what selectors do is fair. They put a lot of thought while selecting players as to who should be given the opportunity and where. It is a positive for me because if I am not selected, I will work harder and score more runs. When selectors will have confidence in me, they will obviously keep me in the team,” Ishan Kishan told ANI at an event in Patna last week.
