Nita Ambani’s BIG PLEDGE, ‘we will take IPL to every part of India and world’


IPL 2023: IPL Media Rights Live Updates – Viacom18 made the headlines recently, as they bought the digital rights for the Indian Premier League for the 2023-27 cycle. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ owner and a stakeholder at Viacom18, Nita Ambani has pledged that she will bring the competition to every part of India and the world.

In a statement released by Viacom18, Nita Ambani wrote “Sports entertain us, inspire us and bring us together. Cricket and IPL personify the best of sport and the best of India, which is why we are proud to be deepening our association with this great game and this wonderful league. Just like with everything we do, our mission is to take the joyful experience of IPL to cricket fans wherever they are – in every part of our country and around the world.”

Besides the digital rights for India, for which they spent INR 20,500 cr, Viacom18 also brought an assorted package of 18-game digital steaming rights for India and also a non-exclusive package for selected nations, which includes United Kingdom as well.

Viacom18 outbid reputed broadcasters and digital companies to establish itself as a leading digital media, entertainment and sports destination. With its wide reach, strategic tie-ups and increasingly popular content bouquet, the digital platforms of Viacom18 are gearing up for leadership in India as well as with the Indian diaspora globally,” the official statement further read.

IPL Media Rights Auction Highlights:

  • BCCI has received a total of Rs 48,390 crore from all four packages.
  • Disney-Star retained Package A Broadcast rights for a whopping Rs 23,575 Cr almost double the amount they paid last time for digital and broadcasting rights combined.
  • Viacom has paid a whopping Rs 20,500 Crore for digital rights.
  • Last time, Broadcast and Digital rights were sold combined.
  • Viacom has also bagged the non-exclusive Package C for Rs 3,273 Cr for 98 matches.
  • The base price was Rs 15 crore per match and it ended up Rs 33.40 Cr per game.
  • Times Internet has bagged Package D, catering to MENA & US territory.
