This is the first time that the Argentine superstar has been left out of the list since 2005. Messi’s last season win came in his final season with Fc Barcelona. Last summer, Lionel Messi joined PSG after a sensational summer transfer. Among others who have been nominated are the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Sadio Mane, Karim Benzema and Kevin De Bruyne.

Real Madrid’s captain and talismanic striker Karim Benzema is touted as favourites to win the trophy. The French forward guided Real Madrid to a La Liga win a memorable Champions League victory. Benzema scored 15 goals in the Champions League and a total of 44 goals in all competitions.

As for Lionel Messi, his stint in PSG has not been up to the stands that one deserves from him. Messi managed just 6 six goals in his debut season at Ligue 1. Brazil’s sensation Neymar too had a dull season, plagued with injuries which befittingly sees his name, not on the 30-man list.
