Japan Open Badminton LIVE: After the BWF World Championships, India’s shuttlers Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy will lead India’s challenge at the Japan Open 2022. The tournament will kickstart from 30th August and none of the Indian players are seeded in the tournament. Men’s Singles 

HS Prannoy, who was the only Indian to make it to the quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships in Singles this year will begin his campaign at the Japan Open by facing Homg Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long in the first round. If the Indian wins the first round, he will face either eighth seed Loh Kean Yew or China’s unseeded Zhao Junpeng in the second round. Fourth seed Chou Tien Chen finds himself in the same quarter and Prannoy is lilet to face the Taiwanese in the quarterfinal.

Srikanth Kidambi faces a tough challenge in the first round of the tournament as he will begin his campaign by facing fifth seed Lee Zii Jia. If Srikanth manages to defeat the Malaysian, he will face the winner between Kanta Tsuneyama and Wang Tzu-wei in the second round. Srikanth is placed in the same quarter that has third seed Anders Antonsen.

Lakshya Sen will kickstart his Japan Open campaign by facing Kenta Nishimoto in the first round. In the second round he is likely to go up againt seventh seed Jonatan Christie. World No.2 and local hero Kento Momota is also present in this quarter and Lakshya is likely to meet him in the quarterfinals.

Men’s Doubles

In men’s doubles, Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala will face France’s Popov brothers in the first round. They are placed in the same quarter that also has fellow Indian pair MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila, who reached the quarterfinal at the World Championship this year. They will face South Korea’s Choi Soi-gyu and Kim Won-ho. This quarter also has second seeded Japanese pair Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi and eight seeded Malaysian duo Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.

Women’s Singles

In the absence of PV Sindhu, who misses the tournament as she is recovering from an ankle injury, Saina Nehwal is the only Indian in the Women’s singles draw. She faces a very tough challenge in the first round as she will be up against World No.1 Akane Yamugachi. Yamugachi recently won the BWF World title and is in top form. There are no other seeded player in this quarter.

Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal, who has had a poor season so far is looking to make a comeback. She begins her campaign against fellow Indian Malvika Bansod. Fifth seed He Bingjiao and fourth seed Ratchanok Intanon are in the same quarter.

Women’s Doubles 

In women’s doubles, Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam will face South Korea’s Baek Ha-na and Lee Yu-rim in the first round. They are placed in the same quarter that has Lee So-hee and Shin Seung-chan who are the third seeded pair and sixth seeded Japanese duo Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who recently won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games are also part of the draw and they will begin the campaign by facing Thailand’s seventh seeded pair Jongkolphon Kititharaku and Rawinda Prajongjai in the first round. The only other seeded pair in this quarter is South’s Korea’s Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong. They are the fourth seed.

Mixed Doubles 

India’s mixed doubles pair Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan are the only Indian players and they will face top seeded Chisese duo Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong in the first round. Germany’s eight seeded pair Mark Lamfus and Isabel Lohau also find themselves in the same quarter.
