IPL 2023 Auction: IPL Franchise Meeting: A day before the auction, franchises will know about the availability of their top targets. With franchises meeting with members of IPL Governing Council members on Thursday, they will get clarity on England and Australian players availability for the entire duration of IPL 2023. Cameron Green, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran are three prime targets at the auction. All three may miss the playoffs due to national commitments. Top Indian players are also doubtful if India qualifies for WTC Finals from June 7. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

The BCCI has already sought clarity on the availability of Cameron Green, and Ben Stokes besides Australian Test players. Australia have one foot in the WTC Final and a lot of them will miss the last leg of IPL for the ICC Test World Cup. But in the case of Cameron Green, Cricket Australia and coach Andrew McDonald are concerned about Green’s workload. Hence, he is a doubtful candidate to get the NOC.

“We hope to get clarity on the availability of players before the auction. The franchise meeting is where we get to know about players’ availability. If the Australians are going to miss the playoff stage, the auction plan might change to getting backups ready. So, it is important to understand the availability of players,” one of the franchise officials told InsideSport.

Similarly, most of the England Test players including captain Ben Stokes will miss the playoff stage in IPL 2023. England are playing a Test against Ireland from June 1. IPL 2023 is set to start on March 31 or April 4 and run till May 30.

Why the confusion regarding Cameron Green? –

  • Cameron Green is IPL Auction’s hot property.
  • The all-rounder impressed everyone during the IND vs AUS series before T20 World Cup.
  • Multiple franchises have cleared the salary purse for the all-rounder.
  • While he has registered for the auction, Australia coach Andrew McDonald has put a question mark on his availability.
  • He told Australian media that due to workload management, he may not get the NOC from Cricket Australia.

What did Andrew McDonald say? –

“His overall workload in the next 12 months of cricket, is it a concern? Yeah, I think it’s a concern for every player. We’ve spoken about it several times. It’s hypothetical to see how he’s feeling come the end of March. He’s got a lot of cricket before the IPL and I’m sure his decision won’t be made right now. It will be made later on down the track leading into the IPL,” Andrew McDonald said after the first Test against WestIndies.
