India and Pakistan to meet in Group Stage

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will first lock horns on Sunday, August 28 as they will meet for the 15th time in the Asia Cup. India currently lead the head-to-head 8-5.

The third team in the GROUP will be a Qualifier from the region. The qualifiers for the Asia Cup will take place before the main tournament as six teams will be divided into two groups.

Both teams will play a qualifier in their 2nd GROUP Match.

SUPER FOUR STAGE: The two teams from both GROUPS will than Qualify for Group stage. The 3rd placed team will be eliminated. In SUPER FOUR each team will play with other 3 teams. That means India vs Pakistan 2nd MEETING in the tournament will be in SUPER-FOUR stage.

IND vs PAK to take place 3 times in 14 days?

  • As expected if India and Pakistan advance to through the group stage, they will meet in the Super Four stage.
  • The Super Four Stage is a round-robin format where two table toppers of both groups will meet each other once.
  • In this scenario both teams will meet in the Super Four stage, which could be the 16th time they meet in the Asia Cup.
  • If both India and Pakistan top the standings in the Super Four stage, they will meet for the third time in a span of 14 days.
  • The two arch-rivals are already destined to meet in the T20 World Cup, so in the span of 2 months both India and Pakistan could meet four times.
  • Interestingly, if certain set of results are met, India and Pakistan could meet twice in the T20 World Cup, stretching the meetings to 5, if certain set of results are met.
