IND vs ZIM – ICC ODI Super League– The upcoming three-match ODI series against India will be vital for hosts Zimbabwe as they are set to miss out on direct qualification for the ODI World Cup in India. The International Cricket Council (ICC) determines ODI qualification berth on the ODI Super League standings. With premiere teams South Africa and Sri Lanka set to play for the 2 qualifying spots, Zimbabwe’s bid for qualification is hanging in the balance with only 10 teams qualifying for the ICC showpiece in 2023. Why are Zimbabwe in danger of missing out on ODI World Cup?

  • As things stand, Zimbabwe have 35 points to their name and will likely miss out on the top 8 finish.
  • With 6 matches in hand, they can only reach a maximum of 95 points, but matches against India and Australia will see them ultimately face tough task.
  • This will propel Zimbabwe to the qualifying stage as they will face a vital scenario.
  • With current situation taken into consideration, the likes of South Africa and Sri Lanka are set to be part of the qualifying rounds.
  • If the two premier oppositions make their opportunity count, then Zimbabwe will likely miss out on the ODI ODI World Cup in India.

What isthe qualification Scenario?

Each team earns 10 points for a win, five for a tie/no result/abandoned match, and zero for a loss.

The top eight teams will get a direct entry to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The remaining teams will have to play in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier along with five Associate teams. Two teams from the qualifying tournament will then progress to the World Cup. India automatically qualify on the account of being the tournament hosts.

Who is Qualified for ODI World Cup in 2023?

As things stand, India are already through as the hosts of the ODI World Cup. While the likes of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, England are also through tot he World Cup. New Zealand and WestIndies will have to wait for another round of fixtures but they too are also through with likely scenarios going their way.

Pakistan on 90 points will also see them through with results going their way, while they also face minnows Netherlands. With still number of games in hand Australia should also be through to the World Cup as they sit 8th. South Africa and Sri Lanka are 10th and 11th respectively.

New Zealand, Australia and Zimbabwe still have 6 games in hand in the ICC ODI Super League.
