IND vs WI T20 Series: India vs WestIndies LIVE: In what comes as a big blow to KL Rahul, he has tested positive for Covid-19 days before flying out to Trinidad for the T20 series. He was supposed to appear for a fitness test on Sunday at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. But now, he will have to spend at least 7 days in isolation as per Karnataka Covid guidelines and return two negative tests. That could see him miss out on the entire T20 series. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who was addressing the media after the Apex Council meeting in Mumbai on Thursday, informed about KL Rahul’s positive test.

The India opener has resumed full-fledged practice in Bengaluru and is close to 100% match fitness. But now, it has take a backseat as he has to remain in isolation. Following Covid recovery, he has to pass a mandatory fitness test before leaving for Trinidad.

“He is close to match-fitness. But we don’t want to rush his return considering he had surgery. There will be a fitness test at NCA on July 24 and if he clears that, he will board the flight to Trinidad. Kuldeep is fine. He has checked out of NCA. He cleared the fitness test,” a BCCI official told InsideSport before the Covid test.

IND vs WI T20 Series: Why is KL Rahul doubtful for entire T20 series?

  • KL Rahul was supposed to appear for a fitness test on Sunday.
  • He is recovering from a sports hernia surgery he had in June and is yet to be 100% match-fit.
  • But the fitness test will now be delayed as he will have to remain in isolation for 7 days.
  • He has to have two negative Covid-19 RT-PCR tests before exiting quarantine.
  • That puts him on a tough timeline as the T20 series begins on July 29.
  • Rahul can exit the quarantine on July 27 if he returns two negative tests.
  • But he will also have to undergo mandatory cardio-vascular test mandated for every Covid recovered player by BCCI.
  • If he clears that, he will have to pass the mandatory Yo-yo test before boarding the flight to the Caribbean.
  • If he gets everything right, he will still miss the first two matches.
