Kohli tried to leave the delivery on length but was too late, as the ball caught an inside egde that crashed into the stumps. The former Indian captain was visibly distraught as he made the long walk back to the Pavillion.
Kohli was 40-run short of 2,000 Test runs against England and 55 short of 1,000 Test runs against the hosts in England. The 33-year-old has been on a downward spiral over the last few overs, having last scored a century in November 2019.
One of the greatest of his generation, Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch. Having amassed centuries for fun in his late 20s, Kohli is yet to reach the three-figure mark since 2019. The 33-year-old’s lack of runs has led to many questions surrounding his commitment and desire to the team’s cause.
While head coach Rahul Dravid has backed his former captain wholeheartedly, concerns remain regarding Kohli’s form. While the 33-year-old has nothing to prove, he needs to overcome this patch of poor form for his and Team India’s sake.
