Max Verstappen at the Red Bull ring has a great record as he has won here three times before and he was looking sharp today after he missed out on a good result at British GP. He was the fastest driver on the grid and took home the first practice session of the Austrian Grand Prix. He was followed by Charles Leclerc and George Russell in the second and third spots.

Red Bull’ Sergio Perez had to settle for a fourth-place finish and he was followed by Lewis Hamilton in the fifth spot. Haas’ Kevin Magnussen had a great outing as he claimed the sixth spot while Carlos Sainz had to settle for a seventh-place finish.

Alpine’s Fernando Alonso took home the eighth spot and was followed by Mick Schumacher in the ninth position, who again had a great outing today. AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda could only claim the tenth spot and was followed by Lance Stroll in the eleventh position.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon did drop positions today and could only manage a twelfth pot finish. The veteran driver Sebastian Vettel came fifth in the session but dropped down positions and finished thirteenth overall. He was followed by Valtteri Bottas in the fourteenth spot as Alex Albon claimed the fifteenth position.

Pierre Gasly couldn’t do much today as he settled for the sixteenth position and is desperate for a good result under his belt. McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo is the other driver who needs good results under his belt as he claimed the seventeenth position overall.

Guanyu Zhou, after his horror crash at Silverstone, was back in the cockpit and started the FP1 session on a high after going fourth fastest. But, he too dropped down positions and finished in the eighteenth spot. Nicholas Latifi in his Williams couldn’t do much today as he had to settle for a nineteenth place finish.

Lastly, it was McLaren’s Lando Norris who finished in the twentieth position after he complained of smoke coming from underneath his seat. He stopped his car at Turn 6 and got out of it immediately and even couldn’t take part in the remaining FP1 session.
