T20 WC India Squad: BCCI on Virat Kohli selection: Virat Kohli poor run of scores has been a concern, especially with the T20 World Cup scheduled in October. BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal made a big statement recently, stating that the player’s inclusion for the T20 World Cup is all down to the selectors. This is interesting development considering India’s squad for Asia Cup will be announced on Monday. Follow Live Asia Cup updates with InsideSport.IN

Kohli is presently not a part of the India T20 squad as well against the WestIndies. He has been given rest by the selectors. This period of rest has also been scrutinized by some, suggesting that the player needs to play regularly and get back to form. However, Kohli is set to feature in the Asia Cup, starting next month.

That is going to be an important series for the Indian, who will need to score good runs. Another series’ failure will only make matters complicated. As for Dhumal, it is the all down to the selectors if they want to pick him for the T20 World Cup.

“Virat is not a simple player. He is a great player. His contribution to India cricket is unparalleled. We want Virat Kohli to come back to form as soon as possible. When it comes to the team selection, we leave it the selectors. It is their call how to go about it,” Dhumal said in a YouTube video.

However, there are a few series before the World Cup. With the Asia Cup, and home series against South Africa and Australia scheduled in the coming months, it gives Kohli some time to get back to form.

Kohli giving up captaincy: As far as Kohli, who is no longer the skipper in any of the formats, giving up captaincy, Dhumal said it was completely his call. The BCCI respected his call and moved ahead.

“As far as his captaincy is concerned, it was his call, He did not want to continue with it. We respected that decision. He has contributed so much in Indian cricket, and everyone respects him,” added Dhumal.
