- Stefanos Tsitsipas has been in fine form this year as he has made deep run into almost all the tournaments.
- He started the year with a semifinal exit at the Australian Open. He the finished at the ATP Rotterdam after losing the final against Felix Auger Aliassime.
- He won his maiden title of the season at the Monte Carlos Masters on clay. Just ahead of the French Open, he also finished as runner-up at Italian Open.
- At the French Open he suffered a fourth round exit after losing against unseeded Holger Rune.
- His first title on grass was at the Mallorca Open but he suffered a third round defeat at the Wimbledon.
- Just ahead of the US Open he finished as runner-up at Cincinnati Masters, but suffered a shock first round defeat at the year-end major.
- He also finished as runner-up at Astana Open and Stockholm Open and enters the ATP Final as the second seed after a semifinal defeat at the Paris Masters.
- Novak Djokovic didn’t enjoy a great season on the tour as he was not allowed to participate in any tournaments in Australia and America due to his non-vaccination status.
- He won the Wimbledon title this year, but since the ranking points were not awarded in the tournament it didn’t help him anyway as he dropped in the rankings.
- Before the Wimbledon, he won his maiden title this year at the Italian Open by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
- He continued that form into the French Open but bowed out from the quarterfinals after losing to Rafael Nadal.
- After the Wimbledon, he did not play in any tournaments for nearly two months and made his return to the tour at the Tel Aviv Open, where he won the title.
- He continued the same form in the subsequent tournaments as he won the Astana Open and also finished as runner-up at Paris Masters.
- He enters the ATP Finals as the seventh seed and has a chance to finish within the Top 5 if he wins the title at the year-end event.
Tsitsipas vs Djokovic Head-to-Head: Both the players will be up against each other for the 12th time in their career. This year alone, they have met thrice with Djokovic clinching victories on all the occasions. They last met in the semifinals of the Paris Masters last week with Djokovic winning it in three games. The Serbian yet again enters the upcoming contest as the favourite.
