- Medvedev started the year with a runner-up finish at the Australian Open after losing the final against Rafael Nadal.
- He then bowed out from the semifinal at the Mexican Open where he once again lost to Rafael Nadal.
- He had his own share of injuries as well as he missed majority of the clay court season after undergoing a sports hernia surgery.
- He returned to the circuit after a two-month recovery and lost in the first round of Geneva Open. At the French Open, he bowed out from the second round after losing to Marin Cilic.
- He was unable to participate at the Wimbledon as all the Russian players were banned from the tournament.
- However he had a good grass court season as he finished as runner up at Libema Open and Halle Open.
- He won his first title this year at the Los Cabos Open as he defeated Cameron Norrie in the final.
- He entered the US Open as the defending champion and bowed out of the tournament after a shock defeat to Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round.
- He won the Venna Open title by defeating Denis Shapovalov in the final.
- Just ahead of the ATP Finals, he bowed out from the first round at Paris Masters, as he lost to Alex de Minaur in a three-setter.

- Andrey Rublev started the year by reaching the third round at the Australian Open, where he faced four-set defeat against Marin Cilic.
- He then reached the semifinals at ATP Rotterdam, where he lost against Felix Auger Aliassime in three sets.
- He avenged the loss in the next tournament as he won the Open 13 title by defeating the Canadian in straight sets in the final to lift his maiden ATP title this year.
- He continued to lift the title at Dubai Tennis Championship, where he defeated Jiri Vesely in straight sets in the final.
- He won his third title this year by winning the Serbia Open, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in three sets in the final.
- At the French Open, he went until the quarterfinal and lost to Marin Cilic in a five set thriller.
- Since he was a Russian, he was banned from the Wimbledon.
- At the US Open, he was ousted from the quarterfinal by Frances Tiafoe in straight sets.
- He won the Gijon Open title, whch was his fourth title of the year. He then faced second round defeat at Vienna Open and Paris Masters.
Medvedev vs Rublev Head-to-Head: The Russians will be facing each other in the ATP Tour for the sixth time. They last met last year at the Cincinnati Masters with Rublev winning the contest in three sets. The upcoming contest too is expected to be a tight one, though Medvedev enters it as the favourite.
