India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the IND vs SA 1st T2oI after a niggle. A BCCI statement then revealed that India’s premier fast bowler complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him and he was ruled out for the game in Thiruvananthapuram.

Bumrah had missed the Asia Cup with an injury and was brought back into the fold in the series against Australia where he featured in the final two games. In one of the games, the Indian pacer looked completely out of touch, conceding over 50 for the first time in his T20I career.

With the injury resurfacing, the question persists – did BCCI rush Jasprit Bumrah back for the T20 World Cup?

Bumrah is one of the most lethal fast bowlers going around in the world and his ability to execute in both phases of the innings makes him a prime asset. The Mumbai Indians star had reported a back injury during the tour of West Indies and missed the Asia Cup as he nursed his way back to fitness just in time to be named in the T20 World Cup squad.

With the back pain no resurfacing, it seems like the selectors and the team management have rushed their star player back into the side. It is not the first time such incident has happened, with Hardik Pandya brought back into the fold despite his fitness during last year’s T20 World Cup.

While Bumrah has only been ruled out for the 1st game, the Indian team will have their fingers crossed with the T20 World Cup looming around the corner. The BCCI can make changes to the squad irrespective of injury by October 9. They have another six days to make last-minute changes until October 15 if ICC grants permission.
